This project explores the history and evolution of Firmin Didot, a typeface developed by French printer and type designer Firmin Didot in Paris during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Known for its elegant, high-contrast letterforms, thin hairline serifs, and refined appearance, Didot became an influential example of modern typography.

Through research, I developed a poster, magazine spread, and webpage that highlight the typeface’s origins, defining characteristics, and lasting influence on graphic design. One of the main design elements I focused on was extending Didot’s delicate hairline serifs, exaggerating their length to emphasize the typeface’s elegance, precision, and distinctive contrast between thick and thin strokes. This approach allowed me to turn the letterforms themselves into visual elements rather than simply using them to display information.
